5.0 SC Kits

So was it just the 85-92 mustangs that had forged internals or did the early 80s have forged internals. I've got an early 80s 5.0 with less than 10,000 on the rebuild. It was rebuilt before I got it. I was told I could run 8 psi on it. My brother told me I could run 5 psi on it as a daily driver and then have a boost regulator mounted in the car to turn it up for when I go to race somebody. What would be the best SC kit for a carbed car? Paxton novi?

The only forged internals were the pistons. Otherwise the crankshaft & rods are the next weakest link.

As long as you keep it properly tuned you should be ok at 6-8 psi.
Not to sure about a "boost regulator"?
They use waste gates on turbochargers for that purpose, but I don't know about being able to do that with a supercharger.

WAIT A MINUTE! You can do that - SC/Wastegate

Of course since I bought a Paxton Novi 2000 for EFI, I would have to say that's my choice, but honestly any of the good name brands would work ok.

Since you are carbed you will have to use a "Hat" and a "blow through" tuned carburetor or get an "Igloo" that totally encloses the carb and use the one you have.

Yeah. I'd also need a bigger fuel pump.

....and you may need to rejet and retune your carburetor.
It is better to be slightly on the "rich" side than to let it go "lean".

Yeah I know. Hopefully I can find a good used kit for about 2 grand or less.

You can do a TC kit for around that price at CX Racing.
It would be harder to install, but "easier" on your engine and probably supply more power for the $$ spent. ZO6 eater just bought one I believe.
See the Superchargers & Turbos thread for links.

Re: 5.0 SC Kits

every thing Trojan Horse said + 100
but I'd go pull thru where the carb sits on top , I've heard there's a lot of tuning issues when you go blow thru
