My 5.0 is getting torn down for the cam two days from now, and Im getting my supplies together. The car has been running mobil 1 all its life but I've heard you have to use special oil for the cam.
any help?
also, just to be right, the break in period is 10 minutes @ 2000 rpms right?
what happens after that? just kill it and change oil back to regular oil or what?
let it idle for a few minutes then kill and change oil?
I think i've got everything worked and ready except for break-in procedures and post break-in.
Go to an autoparts store and pick up cam break-in lube. Its a thick oil you coat it with before you install it. I used Lucas brand if i remember corectly
You don't really need to "break in" a roller cam.
Just use the camshaft assermbly lube and some regular "Non Synthetic" oil.
You can run it at the "2000 RPM for 10 minutes if you wish, or at least long enough for the engine to reach full operating temperature.
Then change the oil out to whatever you usually run.
Yeah new roller cams dont need special break in like old flat tappet cams...i had a roller cam with 110k that I beat the piss out of and had the eng rebuilt the race shop said I could easily reuse the cam!..
ok cool, thanks guys that answers the questions I was looking for
