| Performance chip
Hello
I have a question regarding performance chips promising 7+MPG and 50+HP do any of have them do they work and are they safe? I have a stock 91 5.0 5spd and I'm getting 11 to 13 mpg on the street.
Thank you PAUL

Thank you PAUL | Tune your car.
It should do much better than that.
Mine averages 22-24 MPG (Highway) as long as I am not pounding on it.

I'd definitely at least doing a tune-up on your car. My AOD 90 LX with 4.10's does better than that, even city driving.

Just a guess, but I'm probably getting 23 doing 75 on highway, your car is way off

When's the last time you checked the points on the distributor, wires, and plugs? Another inexpensive maintenance item is the fuel filter. Any of these can lead to bad gas mileage.
If it's still on factory cats I would recommend having those checked as well, could be choking the engine down.

I bought the car back in march 2011 for $1300 with a clean title and 137kmiles completely stock and yes all four stock cats are still their, I only changed the fuel/air filter, spark plugs and fluids I even use mobil1 synthetic oil on all my cars . The fact that the previous owner was retarded he mickeymoused so many things I'm suprised it hasn't quit on me. The only modification I've done was a 5-lug conversion form a 97 including brakes and differential, I'm no sure but I think the gears are pretty close in specs. The truth is it's do for a rebuild but right now all my money and time is invested on my 95 cobra, I just need it to last me a while longer and get me some better mpg while I get my life in order financially. I have this dream that some day Ill be racing my 95 but it's been though. Thanks guys !!!

When they get older and get a lot of miles on them I have seen them start to come apart and clog up the exhaust.

Back in 99 i put a magnaflow exhaust on my 95 and that's what I want to put on my 91, but now you cant purchase aftermarket cats in or fro California vehicles and I live in California. I know that those stock cats are killing the performance. Thank's
