Idler pulley

Ive found the source of my grinding/growling noise, the ford dealer i work at priced an idler pulley to me at a whopping 400 dollars DISCOUNT price, talked to one of the older mechanics here, he said they are bad about wearing out the shaft and it was the whole bracket and pulley, autozone has just the pulley for 20 bucks, anyone ever just replaced the pulley, oh and its the one on the top in the middle on a 1995 5.0L thanks

Re: Idler pulley

i have bought the whole bracket from autozone, if you do buy one from their make sure it has the warrenty because the spring went bad on my brand new one from their, couple buddies had the same problem, i would say it was better then 400 dollers though.

Re: Idler pulley

you can try, just check to see how much play is in the bracket when their is no tension on it. i went through a huge problem with one of my pulley systems and bought pretty much a whole new pulley system because it started off with a squeking noise from the belt, then i ended up braking 4 belts in 4 days, i had two problems 1 the new idler pulley bracket was bad and their was a missing bolt on the powersteering pump bracket missing and the torque was ripping the belts off and shreeding them.
