This happens to me with my 08 GT. The first time I thought there was a problem with the gas pump. I never had that issue with the other GT's I owned.

I have had that issue a few times in the past on different vehicles.
Sometimes it cleared up on its own, others I had to replace the sending unit.
This occurred mostly on vehicles I had purchased that had been setting for a spell.
My guess is that it is caused by intermittant contact or failure of the sliding resistor that makes the sending unit work.
