Yes, I have heard of them.
No, they are a total waste of time and money.

Mine was $2150 for a $4k+ kit.
I have seen some of the Powerdyne superchargers go for as little as $600.

Yes, it is a lot of work and you will need to do some tuning and other supporting modifications for it to work safely and properly.

That's going to depend on which SC you end up with, what kind of shape your engine is in, how much boost you plan on running, etc. etc.

You will need to do a compression test on your engine to verify that it is in good enough condition to SC.
You will need larger injectors #30-#42 depending on the level of boost you will be running.
You need to verify the condition of your fuel system and upgrade to a larger fuel pump to meet the increased demand for fuel.
You will need to go 1-2 heat ranges colder on your spark plugs and make sure the ignition is in good shape. An aftermarket ignition amplifier like the MSD units is always a plus to ensure adequate spark to light the fire.
Before driving the car you will need to have it tuned to ensure it doesn't lean out or detonate, which will destroy your engine.
