thanx. thats all i got done though was one side of one rim. then i decided to go look at cams. but anyways they had to be dead on because the head of the screw takes up the whole bead area of the rim. so just a 1/16" off the screw would either hit the rolled edge or hang off the inside area and getting into the radius on the inside of the rim. so needless to say i really took my time to make sure they were right.

You're like me in that respect. I take twice the time as most people when doing almost anything because I want it to be perfect the first time and I hate doing things over.

No, I'll have to get over there and vote for him.

I'm pretty much anal on anything I do........which frequently leads to friction between my better half and I.

But I just cannot stand to (obsessive, compulsive maybe?) work on anything without making it as perfect as I possibly can.

bad news fellas. i tore something up in my rear. i dont know exactly but i think i did it a few weeks ago. when i was really dogging it i heard a loud pop. and i couldnt find an issue at that time. and the last time i drove it i heard some more noises. i pulled the cover and all the gears are in good shape. the bearing arent that old either. but anyways she maybe down for a little bit. i may just upgrade the tlok and throw some better axles in it.

Sucks, but if your replacing might as well replace with upgrades.

Yeah. When I put the gears in a year or two ago I didn't have any plans on slicks. So maybe its a good thing. May as well upgrade. Just that she's gonna be down a while until I collect parts. Everytime I drive it gets abused really hard. So I'm sure I just need something stronger. The spider gears don't seem to be in the best shape. I have more backlash in the gears than I did before. And it seems that the axle splines are worn. So I have just apparently been abusing the dog ***** out of it. I think I will upgrade the drive shaft to while I'm at it.

Ow, ow, ow! That sux, but you will keep finding the weak links and upgrading them until there are none left.

While you have that rear end out, it will be a good time to weld up the axle tubes and put on that LPW Ultimate rear end girdle we were talking about earlier. May save you some future breakage.

The addition of some 4.10 or 4.30 gears will make it scream down the strip too.

what i want to look into are stronger axles and upgraded tlok. and better drive shaft. i will look for a deal on that cover. if i can score a cheap one i will probably get one, but 150$ is a bit steep.

---------- Post added at 07:58 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:53 PM ----------

P.s. just the way my brain works:when I had the cover in my hands, I was trying to see if there was a way to fab something similar. Lol

I would recommend the Detroit Locker third member. You won't break it, ever. For axles check out Moser Engineering.
They had the best prices when I was checking a few years back. I would also go with 31 splined axles and 3rd member for more strength. If /when my Auburn Pro ever fails, I will go with the Detroit Locker. They have been around forever and are the shiznit when it comes to 3rd members. The only thing about them that some don't like is that they make a clicking sound when you go around corners from the gears ratcheting over each other. BUT, they have no clutches to fail, ever.

Yes, it is a bit pricey. but you get what you pay for with it, I can assure you. It's very HD and when you add the bars to support the axle tubes, it has a plate that goes across the back of the cover to tie them both together for even more strength.

Building one would be very difficult and time consuming.
I considered that too, but laying out and fabbing one up accurately would be just to time consuming and forming the rounded portion of it would be very difficult at best. Basically, I could not build one perfectly enough to suit me.

moser 31 splines with detroit. now thats what im talking about. i ran detroits front and rear in my old truck. they worked great. i was pushing about 500hp on motor with 38.5 x15 wide tires and hellacious gears and they held up great. and honestly i could never hear the ratcheting over the exhaust.

yeah i have come to the conclusion i wouldnt fab one. like you said way to tricky and much time.

If your exhaust was loud enough and with all the noise a lifted 4WD makes anyways I can see why you may not have noticed it.

Yeah yeah it was a Chevy. And a bad a$$ one to. The only one I ever owned, and I will say I miss it.

That mustang is siiick....

On a side note I ripped the rear end out today. Now I just need to see if I can score a deal on some good parts. Also half tempted to try and get this stuff going until I can get some better parts. Hmmm... Idk...lol
