Been wondering what happened to ya. The turbo install is looking good and that is some high numbers for that poor block.

Re: Shes gettin there

Were you going to add a main stud and valley girdle?

DSS claims their main stud girdle and windage tray will support up to 650 hp on a stock block.
That's what I'm going to try as soon as my health allows.

So you are just going to see how long it will last.
I'm very interested in seeing that myself.
Best of luck to you.

Definitely pushing that block on the edge. Should be interesting to know how long it holds up.

I know friends that run over 500 whp on the stock blocks and they literally last for ever. Actually my friends 94 GT put down around 570 over 3 years ago. Drives it everyday he can in the summer and tracks it weekly. And I also have another friends 94 that put down 450 and it lasted like 6 hours after being tuned hahahahhah. Guess it's stroke of luck

Also curious how the on 3 performance setup does. Been waiting for the results to help make up my mind what kit I want.

When you get over 500 HP you are usually on borrowed time, but there are always exceptions to the norm.
One of the problems is that the thinwall casting tecniques used to cast the block don't allow for enough material to keep the block rigid enough. That coupled with the low number of head bolts used to fasten the heads down leads to blown head gaskets and split blocks when you put the HP to them.
Experts have found that the block actually twists and moves around when subjected to high HP.

Re: Shes gettin there

Here's what happens when you put too much power to a factory block.
One of our site sponsors (EHP) has this video on You Tube.

600 HP vs Factory Block - The HP wins.

This vid kind of bursts my bubble, because they are using the main stud and valley girdles (Like I have planned to do.) and the block still wouldn't hold up.

i think this topic could be debated forever.i think what has been done and what is totally safe and reliable are 2 different things.every motor is different and or has been treated and built different.diiferent brand oil, differnt parts, tighter tollerences etc. play a role in how a motor will hold up.

I agree.
What makes the video so disheartening for me is that these guys are professionals, so their engine build should be top notch and it still broke.
However, who knows how many times they beat on it before it failed.
