fast speedo

I just bought a 95 gt and the speeding is off by about 20mph what could be a possible explanation

Someone has changed the gears or the back tires are a larger or smaller diameter than factory.

My $ is on gears. Mine was off 10-20mph depending how fast I was going and it turned out I had 373's. Good way to find out is jack the reared up. Mark a spot on your driveshaft and a mark on the bottom side wall of your tire. Turn the tire one rotation and count how many times the mark on the shaft rotates. If it's 3 & 3/4 turns you have 373's and so on.
