Timing

I what's the best way to set the timing. Is it supposed to be set to the top of the timing bracket or do I need to place a mark on it once I find tdc or what.

Re: Timing

No offense, but you don't sound like you have much experience setting the timing.
You should pick up a Chilton or Haynes manual to guide you through tune ups and repairs.

You will have to put a white mark on the harmonic balancer at 10 degrees BTDC. When you point your timing light at the bracket, the mark should line up with the straight edge of the bracket on the left side when you are facing the front of the engine.

That's what I thought. I have adjusted timing before was just unshore where to line up the make with. I person that I bought the car from already placed a white mark on it and it is set like about 2 inches to the left. I'll have to take a closer look and see where on the HB he actually placed the mark
