Mustang stalled today...help please

Today I was out driving around and my car died on me. I was driving about 45 mph heard a few back fire sounds the rpms dropped to about 500-600 rpms. At that point when i would step on the gas it would sputter / struggle. I got my free tow out of my insurance policy and it is at home. Any ideas what may have failed on me. The car will not turn over now. About 6 months ago i replaced the maf sensor. Please help me out before i drop lots of $$$$ on things that are not wrong.

Thanks all for the help!!!

you mean it cranks but wont fire right?if thats the case you need to check ur fuel pressure and then check for spark and start from there.

Make sure you don't have an air leak between your MAF and your throttle body, that will make it run like sh** if it does.

How long has it been since you replaced your oxygen sensors or your fuel filter?

All of those have those symptoms, trying to start cheap and go up. Do you know anyone with a code scanner?

You can get them for less than $99.00. The problem is finding one for your car, most sold today are for 96 or newer. Check with your nearest auto part store.

I just checked EBay. Mine is a sunpro CP9015 ford scanner. They have it for 29.99. It worked great for me when I had my 95. Should come with a book so you know what code the beeps are making.

Just to jump in. If it's fuel related you prob won't get a code. Fuel filter won't go out/bad just out of the sudden. But you are forsure not getting enough fuel possabile your fuel presure regulator or pump. Put a gauge on your fuel rail/shrater valve have a friend turn key on to prime the system and see what pressure you have. If I remember right should be around 50 pounds at prime and 32-38 at idle. Also listen for your pump to make a light high pitch whine if it's deep and draggy sounding it's time for a pump. If all checks out pull vacume line off regulator try to start it if it cranks up runs better there's your problem. Hope this helps

Sounds to me like the timing chain may have skipped a tooth or two.
Check your timing while you are at it.

You need 3 things for an engine to run. Air, fuel and spark. Check to see you have bot only fuel pressure about also enough fuel flow. Check to see you have spark. What I'd do first is spray brake clean down the throttle body and see if it starts. If it does you have a fuel problem!

Gster, i got the scanner and it gave me 3 codes 511 electronic control assembly problem read only memory test failure 564 electro drive fan circuit failure
558 egr valve regulator solenoid circuit failure
What should i look at replacing.

So far i changed out my fuel pressure reg
And my egr valve position sensor

Does it sound like my vacuum solenoid and or egr valve pressure sensor?

Egr is your exhaust gas recirculating http://www.engine-light-help.com/egr-valve.html
As for the 511 code have you programmed or used a tweecer on the car? If you have disconnect the battery for 20 mins this will clear any changes loaded into the temporary storage. If you still get this code there could be something wrong with your computer.
As for the electo drive fan I believe it has to do with the a/c.

If you have a chip it will cause this code also, then nothing to worry about.

511 that is
