Wheels

Just wanted to brag about the deal I got. Just got my 90 gt. And loving it. But when I got it. It had some old school 16 in wheels but where 4 lug universal and when I looked at them they had 7/16 wheel spacers in front plus the dust caps where missing so I put some new caps on then put wheels back on and realize why they did so. Center caps didn't fit. Then realized they where front wheel drive wheels. So I found someone selling a complete set of brand new cobra Rs with new 255/40R17s and if bought new would have been around $1200. I got them for $500.

It's the ones in my pics, the outer lip is polished. I couldn't go solid black, lol.

A polished lip is ok.not full stealth but my 5.0 badges are shiny to.I was wonder how my draglites would look black.I'm not sure I've ever seen them black .maybe I can hop on the plasti dip bandwagon.lol

Great deal!

They look to be painted silver?
If so a color change is as easy as sanding them a bit and repainting them the color you want using wheel paint.

Black wheels?
Sorry guys I'm the odd man out on that.
I just don't really like them all that much because they seem to disappear in certain lighting conditions. Black highlighting is cool, but solids not so much for me.

I prefer polished or chromed and the shinier and blingier the better.
After I spend all that money on wheels I definitely want them to stand out and grab your eye.

One of the spray paint companies (Dupli-Color, Krylon, VHT....) makes metal tinting paint.
Black Chrome Draglites might look cool?

I wouldn't do the Plasti-Dip.
I don't think it stays on very well and it just says "Ricer" IMO.
No offense intended.

The longer I have black wheels the more I notice them disappearing in certain lighting. seems almost impossible to get them to show up in pics even when they are super clean and shinning considering powder coating or restoring them back to an OE silver or black chrome. And yes Plasti-Dip screams import and tacky to me too. I have thought about different wheels too, like some drag star wheels 4x15 fronts and 10 or 11x 15 out back live that look! Seen some with the screws in the lip for bead lock they just look menacing to me. Some will say a basically stick car shouldn't look like a drag car but for me this car is all about looks.

I love the way they look in person it hard to get a good full car pic that they show up in. Thought about adding like a red stripe on the lip. Not sure though

After much searching and contacting the paint companies, here is the wheel "tinting" paint I was talking about. It looks very interesting and I may even try some of this on my Draglites just to be different.

Dupli-Color Shadow

P.S. I believe this effect could be "Dupli-cated" with any candy color (translucent paint) and a suitable clear coat, so you are not limited to just black.
Pun intended.

I contacted duplicolor to see how good this worked on polished aluminum.they said : for best results apply to dull finish and best to use adhesion prohibitor.

I figured I would fill u in.

Thanks!

I don't think I want to dull my wheels.
Took to long and to much effort to get them polished like I wanted.
