87 5.0 speedo upgrade: help?

Hello, I want to switch my 85 mph speedo to a 140 mph speedo. I have read many threads, but still do not understand.

1) would it be better to switch out the speedometer only, or do I have to (or would it be less trouble) to just switch out the entire speedo cluster as a unit?

2) i understand i will need to install a new speedo gear, which i believe is located at the transmission end of the speedo cable. Could someone let me know which speedo gear i will need to make the 140mph speedo function correctly? part numbers and/or links would be great.

3) my 1987 lx has 1:3.55 differential gearing. Does that fact change the analysis in #2, above?

Thanks very much.

Here is what I did;
I found a 89 gt in the junk yard that had a 140 speedo so without a second thought I pulled the whole cluster and went home. I pulled out the old and put in the "new" without paying attention to the different shape of the cluster. (airbag models are different) nothing worked correctly.
So I swapped out just the speedo by taking apart the whole cluster pretty much and put in the old cluster with new speedo guts and face plate. Very minor modification. Works just great, looks stock and nobody would ever be able to tell how I did it. I didn't have to change the gear in the trans or anything other then what I said here.
I'm not a mechanic at all, just a stubborn do it yourselfer

Ps mark your fuel and speedo needles placement somewhere OFF of the face plate.

I had to R&R just the speedometer in the gauge cluster on my 86 GT.
I did not have to do anything else.
