Turn signals 87 5.0 mustang

Ok so I have seen that this is an ongoing problem in these models, so let me explain.
I just got an 87 5.0 and have been fixing a number of things the previous owner screwed up. There were lots if connections that were unhooked to everything that I have been putting back together. However after all this my front blinkers will not come on. If I turn the headlights on they come on. Don't flash just light up. My hazards flash in dash and in rear. When I put turn signal on the backs come on but no flash. Any suggestions? I did notice the fronts are a double filament but inly have two wires run in to the fitting.

Probably your turn signal flasher or the turn signal switch.
If you don't have one pick up a Chilton's or Haynes manual that has the wiring diagrams.
That will help you trace out wiring problems and failures.

Well got both new flashers. And would my lights on dash come on if the switch was bad. Also about the front lights being double filament, should it only have two wires going in?
The front has new fixtures and some new wiring

Yes, no, maybe. It's hard to tell what someone else may have done to the wiring.
You're going to have to trace the wiring and see if it is still wired correctly or if it has been hacked up.

Get the correct bulbs for the front lights and yes, two wires is what it should have.
If it has the wrong bulbs it may not be making the proper connection and could be interfering with the circuit power flow.

Try the relay behind the glove compartment. There should be a round cylinder-type fuse under there. You should be able to test the continuity to make sure it is good. I had the same problem in my 91 GT. If that isn't the problem the. You will have to get a wiring diagram and use a whole lotta multimeter skillzzzzz.... I can post a picture of a diagram when I get home I you need one.

Surges can be any number of reasons. Make sure you adjusted the TPS with the new TB. That might solve the problem.

I have bypassed my EGR. I didn't take it off because then I would have to plug the hole left behind which would cost me the price of a fitted delete kit. If you bypass it then you will have to plug all the vacuum lines running to it. There could be surges if not all the vacuum lines are used or capped off.

The manual I have doesn't cover below 1989. I posted the picture that I have. If it is too hard to read you can try a web search. I forget the name of the site that I used before but they are out there. I hope it helps.

Which light is the blinker. Is it the outside or the inner light. If its inner I have found the problem.

Re: Turn signals 87 5.0 mustang

Thats so strange. The way the new lights are set up it makes it to where the inside ought to be. Let me ask this do u think it would be illegal if I put them on the inside? The way the plug goes into the fixture would put them on inside.

Shouldn't be illegal.

Re: Turn signals 87 5.0 mustang

Yea that's how mine is then. It seemed like a dumb question but obviously not cause its different on different models. And yeah that's how mine is. I was told by so many that it was the outside that was the blinker so I couldn't figure it out. The idiot who had it before me done everything wrong so it coulda been anything. Thanks for the help though. That makes things way easier for me.

There are no dumb questions. "Measure twice; cut once." Better to confirm and be sure then try to fix something, get it wrong, then have to redo it. Or worse, pay someone to fix the fix. (EM)barrassing.

The turn signal lights should be on the outside corners so they are more visible to other drivers beside you or even slightly behind the front of your car in signaling your intentions to turn.
If they were mounted to the inside of the headlights, those drivers would not be able to see that you were signaling to turn, which could cause an accident in which you would be at fault.
Both my 86 & 89 Mustangs are this way from the factory.

Most of what I see in a Google search shows the turn signal lights on the outside of the headlights and the running lights on the inside of the headlights.
