Lights Out; Any Ideas?

91GT Vert. Headlights stay on for about 5 minutes, maybe less. Then the headlights go out. Markers stay on. Rear, dash lights, backup, high beams, and fog lights not affected.

I checked just about everything that I thought to check. Fuse, wiring, dash panel.

Bounce some stuff off me.

Sounds like the switch may be failing.

My high beams still work, yes. It's just strange that my regular lights work then shut off after about 5 minutes.

The contacts in the dimmer switch are likely heating up whenever the lights are turned on.
After a few minutes they get hot enough to lose contact and the lights go out.

You might want to check your ground wires and see if there is a separate ground for the high and low beams, but I'd bet they use the same ground.
If they don't and each has its own ground then you may possibly have a grounding problem.
If the light can't get a good ground it could back feed through the system causing issues like you described.

The "tungsten" filament in the bulbs could be broken and as it heats up it may move away from contact, but it is unlikely that both bulbs would do the same thing at the same time.

My money is on the headlight switch. I've had similar crazy issues with an 86' 91' 95' 95'.. All four are fords all with crazy issues, all tied to the headlight switch solved by replacing it.
