351 heads

My older brother has a older Ford pick up f 150 that has a 5.0 in it...is that tha same 5.0 as mine but carb? He informed me that it has 351 heads on it...if same 5.0 will those heads work on mine? If so are they stud mounted?? Or what's diff??but its been sitting for a while...so I was Jus curious

It's not the same 5.0 as you got. It's a a non-HO motor. The heads are most likely pedestal mount.

the stock 351 heads will have little to gain.they are not worth switching.

Kinda. If you start with a set of good heads, like a set from 1968-1971.

probably.
i could be wrong and im sure someone will correct me.i think they drop the compression ratio a bit because of the larger combustion chamber.which decreases hp.i do know they are not a great swap but i think that is the reason.
some guys actually use to throw 289 heads on 302s just for the compression bump.

Totally true about dropping compression. Figure about a drop in one, from around 9.0 with 302 HO heads to around 8.0 with 351 heads. What some folks do is shave the deck surface a little to regain some compression.

With the ease and relatively low cost of aluminum heads, makes no sense to do this anymore.
