Re: 91 5.0 Mostly Stock

Not to scare you, but none of what you described sounds good. I would suspect detonation and a blown head gasket or worse from your description.
Check your oil and see if it is overfull or milky looking.

Did you open it up or "get on it" a bit?
Did you check to see if the chip they sent had a timing ****** function?
Are you sure you had enough fuel pressure and volume?
A really lean fuel mixture can cause overheating and detonation.
Part of a rich fuel mixture's job is cooling to help prevent detonation.

We will see, local hot rid shop is coming to get it at 3pm.

I'm pretty disappointed in general. I just hope they can repair anything that was damaged for a reasonable fee. I can't throw 4k more or something in to this car right now

Did you try pulling the chip out and trying to start it? Not driving it just starting it. I have read were some guys had success running no chip to get there car started. As for the over heating it's probably air- locked. Just bleed the system. I had the same issue with mine when I swapped the heads.

A little, Mike Post who owns Dynotune MP here in the Chicago area got it runnin last night in about five minutes. I got cylinder pressure in my coolant loop. He said he will fix it, motor is not dead(most likely). I should know more tomorrow or Friday. I will make sure I keep everyone up to date.

For those of you who don't have time to read all the pages of this thread please understand that I screwed up my engine on my own. Had nothing to do with the turbo kit. If you are thinking of o e of those On3 kits quit thinking about it and just buy it. It's really great for the money. Once Mile fixes all the crap I broke I will throw a video on YouTube of the finished car with the turbo kit tuned properly. Have no fear buy the kit! Be prepared to use a grinder to trim the front lip and number brackets for the intercooler to fit. Took less than an hour. Also, go to Home Depot and get a two or three foot strip of aluminum to make your own brackets for mounting the intercooler. Good luck! Oh, I did not use the y pipe that's available with the kit. I bought 3 inch tube and a Flowmaster Hushpower muffler instead. Just gonna run single exhaust. Let me know if anyone needs the y pipe. Also, the pre tuned chip may or may not be a good investment. I bought it but having my car professionally tuned anyway.

Thanks, my fingers have been crossed for a week, it's starting to hurt

Also, consult your local speed shop before buying everything via mail order. I guarantee it will be cheaper. Even if you have them order it through your preferred vendor. Some of these shops seem to get discounts that we don't get. I could've saved almost 3k on my particular build including labor

Blew a head gasket I'm guessing?

A little but not what you think. Only 4k RPM, and I rolled in to it. I should find out more tonight.

That's all it takes if it detonates because the timing is not being retarded as the boost builds.
My Paxton blower has a warning about that and it says to not free rev it.

You should invest in a gopro camera too! That would make video of the car awesome!

Re: 91 5.0 Mostly Stock

So far we are looking at head gaskets as the culprit. I used the TFS/Cometic gaskets. I can tell you if you do not resurface the heads and block the gaskets "might" not seal right. I say might because you may be luckier than I am. Either way when you car is finished get it professionaly Dyno Tuned. Budget 300-500$ for this as shops vary on cost. I regret nothing, I've learned a ton, but you guys out there that think you are going to do nothing to your motor but bolt on a turbo or supercharger are pushing your luck. Let me break it down for you.

On3 Turbo Kit(Awesome Kit I'm happy with it - $1565.00 shipped
Supporting mods(fuel pump, regulator,injectors,MAF) - 800-900$
Centerforce Dual Friction Clutch - $350.00-500 dependoing on if you need a fly wheel etc...
Tune $450
Exhaust mods - $400

This is almost $4000 - don't think your $1500 tax check is gonna do it for ya. I want to reiterate I highly recommend modifying your cars, but be prepared to spend the needed money. I also, bought, boost gauge, starter, AC compressor, new wheels/tires, rebuilt T5, and about 25 trips to Napa for misc fittings and fluids etc...

Oh yeah I forgot the most important part - To pay a speed shop to do your not so great, inexperienced mechanical work over again about another $1000 give or take a few hours of labor.

Well that's better than bent rods or something of that nature.

Usualy the deck can be checked with a good straight edge and feeler gauges.no more than a couple thousands of error is allowed.

Now all you got to do is wait to pick it up and see how great it is

by the 17th??? jesus christ, is the guy a turtle? I'd say thank you but no thank you at that point and have the heads off 3 hours later. Machine shop next day and the day after put it all back together.

As far as the supporting mods, I build my car from the back first so im good!

I know man just surprised. You don't know this but I live in an apartment so no garage. I borrowed a garage with tools to do this project. I ran out of time and patience with the person letting me use the space. I don't have a lot of options so this guy Mike Post has a great reputation here in Chicago so I'll wait to get it done. Also, with mechanic I want the guy who is I demand and busy not the guy who has all the time in the world.
