speed density vs mass air flow

Im sure this has been widely covered but which is better and why maf or sd? I have a b303 cam and it doesn't seem to lope. Ive heard this is due to the sd making corrections and not allow the lope. Is there other things I can change to get this other than installing the maf or would it just be more beneficial to install it anyhow. Its an 87 5.0 obviously though

maf is better.speed density does not work well with modding.a maf coversion can be done relativly cheap if sourcing used parts.check the stickys section for a link to more info.http://www.carcraft.com/techarticles...ion/index.html http://www.musclemustangfastfords.co...n/viewall.html

my b303 cam lopes pretty good but i have no computer because i am running a carb.

Re: speed density vs mass air flow

Can a sd car be tuned for my cam? The reading I have done is somewhat unclear about this. It seems most prefer maf however. So I do want to try this. I can always swap back fairly easy right? And does having the maf computer increase lope? Also will I notice increase in power by making this swap

Also what all is needed. A computer a meter and harness? Is this all

you need a ecu off a maf car pre 1990, harness, maf meter.im not sure what else.you definatly will not want to convert back once done.but im sure u can with the reverse procedure.you will see improved drivablity and better response to your mods.
if you want to lope more u can try adjusting your idle down a little.but i would not take it to far down or u may get hesitation on acceleration.

Yes, you can tune your SD system, however it is likely to be very expensive and the SD system does not respond well to changes. Some high dollar engine control systems still use SD. Why they do so is beyond my understanding at the moment and since I never plan to use them I don't care to expend the time researching them.

The MAF system responds and adapts much better to changes. While you should tune it to get the most out of your mods it can and will adapt to most mods with little if any issues.
My advice is to change it to MAF and never look back.
My 86 GT was changed to MAF over 10 years ago and I couldn't be happier with the results.

Look in the "Useful Mustang Info" sticky thread for lots more information and how to change over to MAF. One of the links therein has a list of what you will need.
