AOD to T5 Swap & Idle, Bucking Issues
I was recently surfing the net and ran across some information I thought might be useful for anyone doing an AOD to T5 transmission swap.It seems that the swap can lead to idle and bucking problems when taking off.
The AOD computer has a slightly different timing curve, that enables the computer to keep engine RPM's steady between shifts to avoid harshly engaging the gears. This difference can lead to problems when using the AOD ECU with a T5 transmission.
The theory is that the stock mass-air voltage transfer functions in the ECU must be modified to the match the load of the new engine combination. The EEC computer contains tables which correlate voltage from the mass air sensor to air-flow in kg/hr. A custom chip or aftermarket tuner should be able to resolve the issue.
