Shifters for C4?

Any good after market shifters that work well with a C4 auto trans. The stock one is loose and doesn't feel right

I'm sure you can.

I have had pretty good luck with B&M and Hurst automatic shifters in the past and I'm sure the TCI and other name brands are just as good.

Sweet thanks Cap....I was told my C4 won't hold up..I'm running a 351w with a .519 lift cam and Gt40p heads should I go for a different trans?

I had a 351w in mine but I brought my c-4 to a local trans specialist to have it rebuilt and beefed up a bit. And bought a 3500 stall. It's still goin strong with 3:80 gears and a mini spool. So c-4 is pretty stout.

I was also running 295-50-15 slicks on it as well

If it has not been modified to handle the power increase, then it is likely to fail.

If you have it in a drag race car, then I would rebuild it to strengthen it for that purpose.
If it is in a primarily street driven car I would replace it with an AOD or T-5 manual transmission.
Your gas gauge and wallet will thank you.

So it can take a lickin and keep on tickin. My brother was running same thing with a 400 hspr ranger with 4:10 gears so maybe we got lucky not sure but c-4 tranny held up good for us

Like TH said if driven primarily on street I would go up to the AOD due to high rev RPMs. It's bigger and beefed than C-4 and has 4 speeds over the C-4s 3 speeds and you can prolly find one in local junkyard pretty cheap

My experiences were just the opposite.
Every one that I owned (about 6 in all) failed, behind stock or mildly built 302's.
I removed mine and tossed them in the scrap heap and replaced them with the C-6 transmissions. No problems with those I can assure you.

Nowadays they can be built to hold up, but back then they were just weak junk that wouldn't last behind stock engines, much less a heavily modified one.

I wouldn't run one on the street today just because you can get so much better gas mileage with an OD transmission.

No problem, that's why we are here.

If you are referring to the picture in my avatar, that's the front of my 86 GT.
The engine is fake, the car is real.
