What cam ??

Im new to the forum and looking for some info on a new project I have . I'm not new to mustangs just been out of the game for a while . I picked up an 87 notch in pieces ! Super clean never seen winter and it came with a bunch of goodies , edelbrock upper and lower ported (engine is stripped these are all parts ) mass air converted built t5 Mac long tubes 65 mm tb 24 lb injectors . Heads are missing and so is cam . I also have an explorer engine with gt40p heads . So I want to build one engine out of the 2 . My question is what cam would work best with this set up ? Some porting to the heads and will I need to flycut pistons if I use the explorer short block ? Car has 4:30 gears too any help would be greatly appreciated ! Thanks !

Never a bad idea to call the cam company you have in mind..you can tell them your exact setup so they can give you the best possible cam you're looking for!!..
Btw that sounds like a fun project you got there!..

good advice.also a custom ground cam may net the best gains but will cost a little more.

Ok so I picked up an x cam . I know there are plenty of other cams that will work better with my set up but it was free !! So next question is with my p heads (which I will upgrade for some edelbrock's as I replenish the budget ) is there a spring kit with adequate seat pressure for this cam without machining the heads ?

You may have to degree the cam and definitely check piston to valve clearance , also you'll need a tune with that cam!

Ya long story short I picked up a car that was part of a divorce so I got an amazing deal but he started to part it out and the cam and heads , a few other things are missing so I'm just piecing it together to have some fun with this year while I build a killer stroker for it .

So I have everything the same as the p.o except he had performer rpm's with work done and I have a set of gt40p's for now
