Problematic 94 gt 5 speed no mods(yet)

This is my first post to this forum but I read everyday and get great information from you guys. So... If I dont let my car warm up long enuf wen I give it gas its like the car almost wants to die and I can hear some kind of back fire. After the car is warmed up I dont have this problem. I do know I have an exhaust leak where the muffler and pipe are welded. Is there a quick fix for this? Jb weld? Or something of the sort? And lastly.... My car accelerates like its a 4 cyl mazda or something. Check engine light comes on very rarely, maybe once every 2 or 3 months. Car has a strong fuel smell when its first started. I appreciate any help and guidance. I am gonna use my code scanner today and see what I get.
Thanks

I would start with the basics.plugs, wires, cap and rotor, fuel filter etc.then check your Iac ,maf, tps.and wouldn't hurt to see what your fuel pressure is.
Cleaning the parts I mentioned and making sure they are set properly.

YOU NEED A FULL TUNE-UP. the plugs are toast, they are break'n up when its cold. do plugs, wires, dizzy cap and button. and hopefully your cats arent effed up from letn the plugs get so bad if the fuel smell is as bad as u say. tune it up and go from there.

I agree with both posts above and add, buy a manual for your car to help you with the procedures mentioned. Along with damaging the catalytic converters, your O2 sensors may need replacing too.

JB weld or any other epoxy is not going to hold up on the exhaust for very long.
You will need to weld or replace the pipes.

I had it tuned up last May but the car sat for 4 months. So thats really only 6 mos on the plugs and wires etc. I just really want to get my car feeling like a 5.0 should. And not feeling like a 5. slow. Thanks for the advice . Im going to try everything

The thing is my car had decent acceleration for awhile after the tune up. And then one day it just started acting up and running real sluggish. It feels like im dragging a ton of bricks
