new fuel pump

Hey guys I bought a new fuel pump from eldebrock and it's made by walbro. I haven't installed it yet but I jst noticed if I shake it a little I can hear what it seems like a ballbearing rolling around. Is it supossed to do that untill there is pressure on it. I wouldn't think it would be messed up being brand new. But I don't know. Jst wandering if any of y'all have noticed that

Never noticed that on a fuel pump before, but it may just be a small check ball inside the pump suction.

You can hook the 2 wires to a 12 volt source.like directly to your battery.be careful not to shock yourself.you can either drop it in a small bucket of fuel to make sure it pumps or u may be happy just to hear it run.if you are just running it dry don't do it for a long period of time because its not good for it.but for a couple seconds will not hurt it.

Re: new fuel pump

I'd use something less flammable than gasoline if I tried that.Say diesel or kerosene.
I've been put in the hospital twice from gasoline fires. It's dangerous and very painful.

Also, DO NOT look into the discharge end of the pump when you activate it.
No matter how badly you want to see if the pump is pumping.
It will not end well.
