pics of my 96 efi conversion

for all u ppl wondering... these are the pics of my 96 conversion. started life as a v6, now efi v8

no, the car isnt done, but its tagged, insured and reliable.

i used the t-5 that came with the v6. swapped in a 95gt harness... (if ppl knew how easy it really was more ppl would do it). i swapped in my upper and lower control arms from my 92 coupe.

i used the foxbody throttle cable....

when swapping the t5, i cut 5/8s off of the input shaft, and 5/8s off of the bearing retaining sleeve (throw-out bearing rides on). i used a foxbody bellhousing, cable, and quadrant.

im using 3.8 radiator, shroud, fan, etc.

i am not using the body control module which operates fans hi/lo speed, and a/c. its hooked up but does nothing lol.

the intake is 100% fox body as well as all accessories.

i engineered a cruise cable half fox..half sn95.. but thats a whole nother thread..lol.

im using the frpp trac-lok and 3.45 gear from my coupe. its all 7.5 stuff. yes, i said 7.5. and for ppl that didnt know, a 7.5 will handle up to 400ft.lbs. i have a blower hooked up and it hasnt broke in 4years with 11psi of boost... so u guys say wut u want. i just jumped on the local band wagon cause sum ppl here were running 7.5's with 427's on 2nd season of drag racing.

i swaped in 255lph pump...

like sum of u have heard me say before....it was a straight swap to go from 92 to 96... exhaust bolted up no problems.

feel free to ask questions or talk shyte to me. lol.

in one of the pics u will see how the fox body intake is a bit taller than sn95... throw in a 1 inch spacer and a bbk intake that is taller than stock, and u got got lotsa wtf for firewall space...

anyway, the car isnt finished... the interior was all saddle... i painted and/or dyed the seats, carpet, dash, center console, and doors.

the blower is set-up, but not on the car, u can see the blower bracket empty. i will put it on in a few weeks when i swap out to a 4.6 2-3 core aluminum radiator with overflow..... y u may ask... cause the blower belt wont clear the 3.8 overflow location... i like the factory large overflow tank cause the blower makes rediculous heat.

very nice!

since you requested a little chit talking im just gonna say you like pushing the envelope.and i mean the t5,7.5, and high boost.but hey it can be done and your proving it.thats it.but im sure you already knew that was coming.lmao. p.s. this was only per request

so the v6 t5 input shaft was longer,is it also a different diameter?if so u just used the v6 pilot bearing?

i see what u mean about firewall clearance.wow thats close.

the interior is looking pretty clean.

you can get some really nice fan controllers from summit pretty cheap if you need to do that.but im not sure about the 2 speed ones.i only hooked up one speed on mine also.

keep up the good work

Hey I was just wandering something. How come u had to cut the input shaft 5/8 on the t5 if u used it in sn95. I have a 94 gt and the owner b4 put a 99 model t5 out of a v6. Do u think they had to cut it to also and u think it might have a v6 pilot bearning. The guy that owned it b4 me works at a garage in the town that I live. Is there any chance u think they changed the input shaft to thr 5.0 and thought would be helpful. Thanks

NO...NOT IN UR APPLICATION.. the sn95 5.0 bell is 5/8s longer than 86-93 foxbody bell.

if i had a sn95 5.0 bell i wouldnt have to do any cutting. but my grinder was free. lol and the sn95 5.0 bells are pretty pricey..even used. and at the time i was kinda tapped out on cash, cause i coulda just bought a foxbody input shaft and bearing retainer. i bought a new clutch cable and quadrant tryn to figure the shyte out.

again, the grinder was free...lol.

so ur car already has the correct bell so u can use 94+ t5. if u used an older t5 93 or older u would have to change the bearing retainer or ur throwout bearing would run outa space.

i installed that fuker 6 times in two days by myself....lol

Thanks that cleared alot of stuff out. Yeah I say that sucked. Taking it out that many times. But sometimes u have to do what u can to save some cash I know thst. I'm going to go ahead amd aak u this. U seem like u know a quite of bit about t5s. My shifts like butter when it's cold but after I drive it bout 45 mins it will get hard to shift in 4 amd 5 but out of nowhere next time I shift into 4 it will go right in. So it's unpredictable. Sometimes it shifts fine amd then it will be hard to shift. Amd my throwout brearin squeaks alot. But I just hope it ain't my syncs. I don't understand when the motor is cold it shifts perfect. I've changed the fluid. Tried adjusting my clutch. But I was planning on it when I changed my clutch I was goinh to examine the throwout bearing amd all thst good stuff

---------- Post added at 03:41 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:39 PM ----------

And also my speedometer don't work right cuz of the 99 model trans and 4:10s on top of that so I jst use a gps but I would love to have my speedometer workin right. I had to unhook my speed sensor cuz I was rakin up the miles on my cobra gauges thst I bought.

lrs usually has a good selection of calibration gears and they can tell you which one u need.they are cheap,if i remember right they are only like 20$.

i forget the name of the part that the throw out bearing rides on but i would check that to make sure the bearing is not hanging up when its sliding.they get worn after time and could possibly cause this.if it is the problem they make steel ones.i believe the stock one is aluminum but i could be wrong.i would also check to make sure your clutch is adjusted so that your bearing is not always riding on the pressure plate.

input shaft bearing retainer.... and that would be a clutch engage/disengage issue. the problem he has is most likely sum worn out shift syncros in the tranny itself. at least im pretty sure anyway..lol

my bestie builds trannies so i guesse i could ask him tommorow.

Yeah I'm not an expert either.lol. I was just guessing that cause of the inconsistencys.and that the bearings making noises.

---------- Post added at 10:56 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:53 PM ----------

But I would still definatly check to make sure that the bearing isn't riding on pressure plate at all times.that can cause premature failure.

Thanks guys I'll get around to checking all those things. But the only thing about the speedometer is that I have a 99 model trans and I reckon they changed the speed sensor to a electronic one instead of a regualar style that y'all have. But I went to Oreillys and checked on the speed sensor and it was the same part number for the 99 and is was for the 94. But I don't really know what is different about it.
