Buddy of mine bought an 86 gt and it had no air filter.

Would that mess the car up?

In time it would.
With no air filter any debris entering the intake air tract gets sucked into the engine.

It is not good, but depending on how long it went without, it may or may not have hurt it. If it was never on dirt roads, it might not be too bad.

A guy should always run some kind of a air filter. It is cheap insurance.

Less than a year and he only drove it to work for about 3 months. No dirt and he only lives a mile away from work. I always change my air filters, its just common sense. Ijdg ppl sometimes

Now the question is how many times did the guy change the oil.

If he never had the air filter in I wonder if he ever changed it.
