how rare is Ford Motorsports 160mph speedo?

I have a 160mph Ford Motorsports speedometer, how rare and what did they come on?

I replaced my speedometer cable and VSS but its not working. I've verified the speedometer works and was told the clip holding the gear or the gear in the Trans tailshaft is stripped. How hard to fix?

Don't know that I ever saw or heard of one.
You'll probably have to tear down the transmission and remove the tailshaft to get to it.
Depends on what you have.

1987-1993 Saleen's came with a 170mph speedo. The 1989 Saleen SSC came with a 200mph white face speedo. You can usually find both on e-bay.

You may have an optional or add on speedometer.
I'm sure if you Google it you can probably turn up some more info on it.

The 160 mph speedo came out of an SSP car if it doesn't say Saleen on it. I have a 92 LX that was a Nebraska State Patrol car and have done a lot of research on the SSP's. I was even able to track down the officer that drove the car. Your working issue could be caused by the toothed gear in the transmission housing. Not difficult to change. There is 1 bolt holding the cable housing into the trans. Remove it and give a tug on the cable.

I had to change my gear and it was in the Chilton manual. Took about five minutes.

Yes, the speedo cable gear is easy to change. Not so easy, is the gear inside the tailshaft that drives the speedo cable gear.

The speedometer gear is fine. It's the one in the tailshaft that needs replaced. I haven't even attempted it yet because of wanting to switch gears. Was told the gear needs to be changed as well.

That's what you said earlier, i thought the guys in the posts above may have misunderstood.

Yes it is best to match the drive and driven gears.
The "drive" gear is the one in the tailshaft, the "driven" gear is on the end of the speedo cable.
I had a 95 GT and the gears did not match perfectly.
It was always chewing up the driven gear.

The closest ones to those would be the 84 SVO seats kinda similar and you can get the fabric from a few online sources.

I just found out that I too had a 160mph speedometer covered a white inlay gauge covers.

My car is a 88 gt so I am assuming it isn't a stock speedometer? My speedo cable needed to be replaced so while doing some further cleaning of the cluster I wondered if it had the original cluster and sure enough a 160 mph was covered by a 140 mph white gauge surface. Who would do such a thing?

How much is it worth?
