gt40 question?????

Did the GT40 heads and intake come factory on some 302's? If so, what years? Can I use GT40 heads from a efi 302 and use with a carburetor intake?

Yes on the 5.0 explorers. 96- early 97= gt40, late 97- 01=gt40p. Yes you can use a carb intake as well.

Yes you can use either heads. You'll see the most gain out of the gt40p heads but header clearance is an issue with the spark plugs, they do make "P" specific headers to remedy that problem.

They are a cheap upgrade over the stock e7's. Larger valves and better flow. Obviously edelbrocks, trick flow and so on are better but they aren't cheap.

You can also use bbk headers. The P headers are a little expensive. I have the bbks on my 351w, GT40p heads and carbed. The bbk shortys run about 150 to 170, if I remember correctly. I did use heat resist sleeves for my plug booots on the drivers side, passenger side was ok.

The bbk shortie headers are $209 and the equal length headers are $229 by most company's (summit, jegs, American muscle)

Bbk are 189 and the FRP "p" headers are 239 from LRS. The extra 50 is worth not having to buy the extra boots and dealing with the headaches when changing plugs with bbk headers.

I did notice with my bbk equal length headers the bolts the gave me only threaded in the head about a 1/4 inch , I didn't feel comfortable with that so I bought longer header bolts from Mr. Gasket

Youre right slowstang, I had to get the bbks because I swapped in a 351w, with the gt40p heads,I dont think there are P headers for that swap. Sorry for the misunderstanding though

No misunderstanding for me, I'm running bbk headers with my p heads so I know how much of a pita it is to change plugs. Sucks that they don't have swap headers for p heads.
