electrical issue? - Mustang Evolution

electrical issue?

my 89 gt is having an issue with the battery losing its charge, Its a new battery and a new alternator but my battery wont hold its charge longer than a day, I cant find the problem, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Check all the wires on your alternator. Make sire they are hooked up right.

the thing is that it was the same issue before i bought the new alternator and battery. the wires are fine on the alternator.

sounds like you may have a short somewhere. it wouldnt hurt to double check your battery cause just recently i read a thread were a guy got 3 bad batterys in a row from autozone.he finally upgraded to a different brand it was fine.

Make sure you don't have an under hood or glove box or map light that's staying on.

Check the fuel pump relay too and make sure the contacts haven't welded themselves together so the fuel pump stays on all the time.

Id disconnect the battery and check it with a voltmeter then hook it back up and check it again(eng off of course) to see if there is a draw on it..then that should tell you if there is a short..
I had this problem as well.turned out the diodes fried on the voltage regulator causing the short..

If you have a DMM you need to do a parasitic draw test that will tell you if somthing is running while the car is off
