93 5.0 Cobra

How can I tell if my 5.0 is a cobra engine. I was told its a 93 cobra motor fuel injection.

Is the car a 93 cobra or just the motor?

The upper intake manifold should be rather easy to ID, and Id guess the lower would be the same as the upper. The gt-40 heads are also rather easy to ID. Look on the sides of the heads, there should be "lines" that stick out. 2 lines is gt-40 and 3 is gt-40p...I think (Im sure someone will clarify if Im wrong). As far as the short block, I think they are all pretty much the same? To be sure if its a cobra short block, you'll need to find the serial numbers on the block itself. Hope that helps a little

I think it's just the motor the car is found threw a restoration and we have no vin numbers but the motor was said to be a "cobra" motor.

ware are those numbers located as the motor is in the car now. is it possible it's a cobra intake and not the full motor?

Honestly, Im not 100% sure where the blocks serial numbers are located. My best guess is underneath...back behind the oil pan somewhere. Its entirely possible you have the gt-40 heads/intake only. As I said, aside from minor differences, I believe all (old) 5.0 short blocks are the same.

Re: 93 5.0 Cobra

The shortblock cobra and the shortblock gt 5.0 is the same in 93 only, in the years before hand, the pistons are different. Cobras have different heads, intake, injectors and computer. The cam is the same however. GT-40 heads have 3 bars and if you pull the valve cover, it will say GT somewhere on the head underneath the cover. The roller-rockers should say crane as well as they are 1.7 rr's instead of factory stamped stell 1.6.

Take pics of the motor if you can

+1, except the cam is completely different.

The 93 cobra had gt40 heads. The gt40p heads come from explorers.

Re: 93 5.0 Cobra

The differences are really negligible and there is no huge advantage to having a "Cobra" engine. Check for the differences as noted above.
The casting number on the block is behind the starter, but it will only tell you the year that that particular casting was put into production and it may not match the year of the car.

Basically if you have a Cobra engine, great, if not, it is no big deal and you can easily build it to have more power than a Cobra engine anyways.

Re: 93 5.0 Cobra

you do get GT40 heads , Cobra intake ,and crane (Cobra) 1.7 rockers ,so It is a +++ if it is a Cobra engine ...............
there's also a vin # stamped on the back of the block ,just behind the intake manifold on top where the bell housing bolts up ... if you can get it ,have a dealer run the vin ,see if it is the real deal ...
