EGR valve unhooked

Have a quick question. I have been fighting with my car having a high idle. After driving for a little while and I stop at a light the tons will be around 1800. After about 10 seconds it will go down to about 1200. I was just looking at it today Nd decided to unhooking the egr valve. Now my idle is still around 1100 but TE rpm does not stay up like it did. Why would this make a difference or was this just a fluke. I am up for any suggestions cause u don't know what else I can do. Thanks

The EGR valve may be sticking. Clean it out and see if that helps.

Might also be a timing/idle setting problem. My egr is gone an they only do anything when engine cold, mine idles fine around 900.
