Ok, my buddy has a '89 foxbody 5.0. He installed a powerdyno BD11 supercharger on it. The problem is he is having problems getting his boost over 5 pounds. Is anyone else having a this problem or know what could be the cause? Or does 5 pounds sound about right?

He is currently running 2.75 a pulley and his went down to a 2.35 and still nothing..

honestly i am not expert on s/cs. but a couple things to look at.

first is boost line hooked up in a proper location to get accurate readings?

second.is the motor a fresh rebuild?maybe the rings are only holding so much boost.is he getting any kind of blowby.

i would think that changing the pulley would make some kind of increase.so there is definitly something going on

Ya there has to be something messed up. I will relay your suggestions and see if that brings up closer.

I dont know very much either on s/c..so your saying with a blow off value may help with the boost levels? I know the car isnt rebuilt (at least he said it isnt). It has like 126k on it, i believe.

Another question that I came up with is..the power tube from the s/c to the intake looks a little bit bigger then the s/c exit, is there anyway the tube could be to big and its losing boost in there?

was the kit purchased new?because im sure if it was a kit all the tubing sizes should be correct.if it was custom fabbed then maybe we could try finding some kind of kits and compare sizes to see.but i dont really see it being to big of an issue.

you are talking about powerdyne right?

does he have a blow off valve?im not really sure what your asking on that but i suppose he could be loosing some boost if that is what the bov is set or designed for.

Yes its a powerdyne...he said it was rebuilt in 05 when he bought it so i dont know if all the tube is made for it. It looks a little off but then again i dont know what one is suppose to look like.

The blow off valve...i dont know if he has one or not..would it help if he did?

again i could be wrong.but the blow off valve will release pressure.it wont really help increase the boost.

It's late now but give it a little time and I'm sure some more experienced peeps will chime in.

Also maybe can you get a few pics of his setup and the actual part numbers of the s/c.it may help me, and more importantly others research it better.

Has he tried to tighten up the belt even more? My friends car had a 14 pound pulley on it and he was only able to hit 7 pounds of boost at the most. So fought with it for weeks. And then one day we decided to tighten the belt because we realized that it maybe wasn't tight enough and wasn't holding onto the pulley. Once we got it really tight. We hit 14 pounds every time

Re: Powerdyno s/c problems?

The BOV may be leaking. The impeller may be worn out and internal clearances may be to wide.
Those and possible belt slippage could account for your problem.
Or maybe that is all it was designed to produce?
Contact the manufacturer. They should know.

Re: Powerdyno s/c problems?

im late to the thread here... powerdyne isnt gonna be super helpful cause they changed their name and now manufacture grand am/le mans series race car parts... carbon fiber and carbon carbon stuff.

i have email addy and phone numbers for principles there, but im not really able to give them out.

anyway, the crappy *** bosch b.o.v usualy leak the boost out, if the belts not slipping.

ive spent alot of time with powerdyne over the phone... and they helped me set up my car.
i have a bd11a that ive had for a few years now...

you can p.m. me and/or i can give you my number and i can help you trouble shoot if you are still having issues
