pop,crackle and backfiring ?

Hey guys I was wandering if anybody could give me some ideas why my car is doing this. I noticed it jst a little after I installed a msd box on my car but when I'm coasting and not giving it no gas and it will start popping and occainally a small back fire out the exhaust. I have had straight pipes on it for about 6 months with no popping or backfiring. I heard it could be the timing chain, or something about the unburnt fuel going in the exhaust ?

Re: pop,crackle and backfiring ?

You probably have a leak in your exhaust system. When you do and let off the gas it will draw in cold air and cause it to crackle and pop.
Now if it does the snap, crackle and pop, then your car has been infested with the Rice Crispies elves and they are really difficult to get rid of.
