4 lug rear disc

What do I need to make a rear end out of an 88 turbo coupe thunderbird work in my 90 lx? Master cylinder? Proportioning valve? I found one not far from my house for a good price and I would love to have 4 wheel disc

I ain't for sure but it should bolt right up. If I had a fox body I would go find me a 94-98 gt or v6 and get the back axels and the back brake assemily from it. It will swap right over. Then u would have disk brake in the back with 5 lugs. And u also can swap out the front spindles to also make the front 5 lug. But me personally if your Rearend is in good shape. I wouldn't even bother to swap the Rearends.

I just put 4:10s in mine and put all new brakes on it last fall before I put it away for the winter, I just saw the t/c rear end for sale and thought it would be nice to have rear disc instead, thanks for the reply

Re: 4 lug rear disc

The Turbo Coupe rear is wider, but as I remember, it bolts directly in and while most probably don't, you should verify the necessity of replacing the master cylinder along with any lines possibly needed. If available, get the one off the T/C, if for no other reason, to have a core when you need or choose to replace it. You'll also know that the one you're buying matches the one the T/C came with, if it's really different than the Mustang(I'd think it is a bit different inside).

If you can, at least examine the T/C so you'll know if it appears notably different.

Ill have to look up the difference in master cylinders, the guy with the rear end only has the rear end so I have nothing else to look at. Do you guys think I'll see a big difference in braking or is it even worth doing the swap?

You will definitely notice a difference in braking power.
IMO the only real negative is the additional width which will limit your wheel and tire selection even more than just the 4-lug pattern will.

You will need the master cylinder and the proportioning valve for the swap.
Disk brakes use different volumes of fluid and the rear brake pressure needed is less than drum brakes.

That's some very good info, thank you. I'm going to start gathering parts, including the rear end. Thanks
