Weird loping

Here recently after I drive my car and park it to go into a store or something, come back out, start it, it begins loping and running like crap, is this from the heat soak on my cold air intake? It clears up after I drive away

hmmm....i think your gonna need to check fuel pressure when this happens. but i would do the basics to.clean maf iac and check tps.make sure you have no vacuum lines.and the coil and fuel filter may need checked.

i dont know for sure but i doubt your cai is causing this.

Answered my own questions via google, are each available at auto parts stores? And would it be simpler/easier to just buy a whole new distributor? And the TFI I have read is on the passenger side, what does it look like?

Also American muscle has the msd blaster coil with TFI will these take place of that sensor?

Both parts are testable.this is the test for the module found in the stickys. There is a test for the pip but I'm not sure if that's in sticky or not.but im sure Haynes or google could find that.

I would test both parts imo before spending $$

No it won't.its just the coil.there is a chance it could be suspect to but I would look at the other parts first

Re: Weird loping

Something else I just thought of, you might check your IAT (Intake Air Temperature) and ECT (Engine Coolant Temperature) sensors too. Either one could be failing and signalling that you need more fuel.

Then we may be on to something with those temp sensors.
If they act up they could be signalling for more fuel when it is not needed.

Yeah it should be on your coldair intake. U should be able to find it. The wiring ties into the maf harness!

My car was doing the same thng a while back. Sounded like it had a cam in it. But it could be fro the oil not letting it get a accurate reading. I would clean the maf and iat to c if that helps

If it has then your MAF sensor needs to be cleaned too.
Use alcohol or approved carb cleaner and a Q-tip.
Be very careful not to break the wire on the MAF sensor.

Re: Weird loping

sooo when is the last time you put plugs in it? sometimes when the plugs are on their way out they will break-up when you start it... or babsicly when the plugs are cold frm sitting. once u been driving for a few minutes the plugs warm up and will conduct spark better.

i would check those first... thats just my opinion

I would still pull all the plugs and check them like svtlx said. Now that I'm thinking about it. I think thst might have been what was causing mine to do thst a while back. On one of my plugs the white insulator had a crack all the way down it. I replaced thst and it solved my wierd lope and also I had a high rpm miss. Does it ever cut out or miss on u at high rpms?

i would start looking at the pip and coil. sometimes with changing temperatures ignition parts may start acting funny when they are getting weak.you can test both of these parts.if you still have a factory coil i would suggest upgrading to msd anyways.they are pretty cheap.

While your at it. If u have access to them. I would check the timing and the fuel presure. By the sounds of your problems. It sounds like it could be missing just a tad makin it sounds like it's loping. Run u some good Lucas fuel treatment. U could have a injector that's starting to get cloged. But prolly not but u never know with problmes like thst. Btw how many miles on r your car ?
