My 87 5 speed is starting to make some bad noises. I just don't know what the noises mean and what to fix. First noise just sitting in neutral there's a slight grinding swirling noise that goes away when I push in the clutch . Is that the to bearing. Or bearing retainer? And second when driving in third I'm getting what sounds like rattling and it's worst when I let off the gas and cruise. I hate listening to it and it's time to fix or find another. Thanks all
Yeah sounds like the bearings are bad for the first sounds. The second sound is prolly the synchros. Sounds like an excuse to get rid of that T5 and step up to a better tranny like a tremec.
Sounds like its a throw out bearing as far as the synchros being bad have you had any trouble with certain gears grinding when shifting. If not then I wouldnt suspect synchros
