| To keep the tail pipes or not to keep the tailpipes
I just had magnaflow mufflers put on my 94 GT recently and its a whole lot quieter than I wanted. No more exhaust leak though, the guy at the muffler shop said I had a big hole in one of my mufflers. Besides the magnaflows my exhuast is stock, and I have chrome tips coming out the back. So.... I was thinking about cutting the tail pipes all the way back about 3 inches from the magnaflows. What are the goods (if any) & what are the bads(if any) if I choose to do this? |

peronally i like the way yours look.but i dumped mine before the axle and i dont mind it. you will get more fumes in the cabin. the best thing to do is get some turn downs and angle them out a little bit and it may help.

Can I get rid of two of them and possibly still pass smog? ---------- Post added at 03:07 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:05 PM ---------- One last dumb question..... How far away from the muffler itself should I cut the pipes at?

some people like drone, some dont. maybe youtube drone exhaust?
but anyways, what i would do is cut is close and put turn downs on it. the angle the turn downs down and out.
you can get high flow cats. that may help some.

I have no cats, flows, and dumped after axle. It's loud, deep, and sounds incredible at idle.
At highway speeds, the drone is awful..
If you are in an emissions restrictive area, you have to have all catalytic converters installed and functional. Hi-flow cats are also not legal. If you want to risk it, that's up to you.

id keep the tail pipes and buy an offroad h pipe.if you live in an area that requires smog testing just swap h pipes before you go.i dont have that issue in louisiana thankfully.they dont even inspect here.

I cut them off about 3 inches from the mufflers. Still have all 4 annoying cats. The funny thing is..... Not to long ago people were getting their cats stolen from their cars in the county i live in. I kinda wished mine were stolen. Lol

Hey, if those tips are in good condition, I'll take them off your hands.

I have flowmaster super 40's with no cats it's a tad to quiet for my tastes so soon I'll be getting these taken off and go with original 40 series.

I have carb conversion. Which means no sensors, smog, egr etc etc etc. I also have headers with or h pipe and 10 series dumped. So there isn't any way I was gonna cheat through inspection.
