Wider tires??

I have an 89 gt..is their any way I can put wider tires like what do I have to do and be a safe way..thanks..

I'm running 315s on my fox but I wouldn't recommend it on a daily driven one. You should be safe up to a 275 width, but move up to a 8 inch wide wheel at least

They would fit, most manufactures recommend a 11" rim for that tire even though a 10.5 will do. They MIGHT flatten out the middle threads alittle faster.

If you ever have time some detailed shots would be appreciated along with any info on how you got them to fit under there. You could do a write up in the Useful Info thread if you'd like? That would help answer the wide tire fitment questions we get from time to time.

Then you won't be able to fit them.
Why in the world would you want to keep the quad shocks?
They are mainly a "Band Aide" fix for weak factory control arms.

No reason to toss them!! I want the car to remain mostly stock.. Including the quads, also the are a nice set of race craft Saleen shocks.. I'm not about all power and performance with this fox.. This one is for the car shows but is still a toy

Idk why the guy who built it kept them. Cause the lower control arm are not stock and really doesn't need the quad shock.. Idk I want a wider tire just don't want to de-value my fox it's never been messages with a hammer nor had the fenders rolled she's pretty..

You will have to forego the wide tires then. I don't think you will get much larger than a 275 under there without some massaging somewhere.

Noooo!!! 😞. That's just not as sexy.. Idk it's gonna take some debating on my end. I want to keep them but they honestly are pointless if what you stated is true.. I will think on it.. Im still saving for tires

At this point I am seriously considering moving my rear coil overs inboard and installing some mini-tubs to fit wider rear tires.
I am also looking at removing 1" to 1.5" from each side of the rear axles so I can run a 10" to 12" rim that has the center, centered in the rim instead of being offset.

Well, I have the advantage of having helped build several street & strip cars and trucks which involved tubbing and shortening rearends, so it's familiar to me.

Don't forget some control arms still need assistance of quad shock. For the most part if they are decent then removing them are fine. But I have heard of people replacing there arms and still needing them. But your car seems pretty well built so I would guess they didn't go cheap.

In the umi's I am running the directions actually say remove the quad shock and toss because it will no longer be needed.

Yeh... I pulled the quad shocks. Factory rear suspension. Bfh to the inner fenders. Still get some rub but i'm working it out. Drove it to work today actually

Just an update.. I put the cobra on.. They rub a lil in back in front.. Which size spacers do I need? It's barely rubbing on the tail pipe on rear.. I'm not sure about the front but it's tight

Depends on how far you can move them out.
Maybe 1/4" or 1/2" will do?

Well my studs are plenty long enough I will try 1/4 all the way around I suppose and see how it works.. I don't know anyone on this forum with this setup. I'm going to do some searching and try to dig something up.. Anything y'all find is appreciated.. So I don't have to do as much running around
