Oppinions on possible trade

I might be trading my 94 gt 5 speed with no mods for a 89 gt 5 speed with some mods. It has a rebuilt engine, hurst short throw shifter, pullys, cold air intake, 4.11 gears,
flowmasters.with side exhaust kit. It has 25000 miles on the rebuilt engine. My 94 has 130000 miles. My 94 leaks oil, feels sluggish at times. Both cars have clean titles. So im pretty sure everyone might say do the trade.... But this guy said he bought the car two weeks ago so the title isnt in his name. And he decided he didnt want a fox body? What are the pros and cons if I go thru with this trade..

i think i would do it. i would be careful as there are a couple red flags but not major ones.

what seems fishy is the he never titled and changed his mind so fast. so i wonder if he drove it and found some problems he didnt like? but a few things to look at. is he trustworthy? and go over the car really good. and go to title it as soon as you get it. or at least have the title ran before you buy it. these arent probably issues to some people, but i may just be a paranoid buyer. lol

Be very careful, that sounds fishy to me.
If the title and the car/mechanicals check out ok, then good, I would trade, but not until everything checked out.
Have the PD run the VIN just in case.

Yep
I've seen several "deals" like that go south and the car ends up being junk or stolen.

Thats EXACTLY why I posted this.... Cuz it seems fishy to me too. A little to good to be true. On the other hand... I bought a 96 Lexus and sold it a week later for $1000 profit without putting it in my name. I sold the Lexus in order to get my Mustang. I dont know this guy, I posted my car on craigslist for sale or possible trade for for fox body. I do have an OBD1 scanner that im gonna bring with me. So how do I check if the car is legit? Call the police dept and have them run the vin# and plates?

Yes, the PD or maybe the License Bureau.
Check the car bottom to top and closely inspect the engine.
Check the oil pressure, pull the dipstick and look at the oil, etc., etc..

Rust : torque boxes, strut towers, floorpans.

Listen for motor knocking and vibrations.

Bounce the car up and down to feel if shocks are worn.

Look for metal flakes in the oil.

Check antifreeze for oil in it.

Check tail pipes for smoke.

Take it for spin and just use some common sense if it feels right. If anythings seems fishy it probably is.

The guy said its not the original motor from the car. 25,000 miles on rebuilt motor. It drives real nice. I think it has a racing clutch in it. Sounds good and strong. Just needs cosmetic work done and some interior work done. Im so use to the SN95's and im gonna have to learn to like the fox body interiors

It is almost difficult or impossible to do from the outside of the engine.
You could look at the block ID number on the passenger side by the starter, and get an idea, but you never know what someone has done inside the engine.

If it is a 351W it will be 1" wider and a 1.5" taller than a 302.

Length - Width - Height
29 x 24 x 27.5 - for the 221-260-289-302 - Weight - 460 lbs.
29 x 25 x 29 - for the 351W - Weight - 525 lbs. (65 lbs. Difference)
