86 gt won't start with key, but starts with solenoid jumped

Was starting fine, but went to start it just a bit ago and it cranked for a split second and would not start again with the key. Jumped the solenoid and car starts right up. Just won't start with key. Any suggestions?

Try not letting the key spring back after you turn it. Sometime an old ignition will aping the key back to far and not let you start your vehicle.
Turn key when vehicle sounds like it starts turn the key back to run manually....

It won't start at all. Tried that. even let the pedal up n down while key is turned. I know it's not the starter. I'm guessing it's the clutch switch.

Yea that was my next guess. Just route the two wires together and eliminate the switch...

Figured out out. It was the battery cable that connects to the solenoid. It was a little loose on the solenoid. Didn't feel loose, but it turned a good full turn. Thanks for your help.

If you ever think its the neutral safety switch don't cut the wires and twist them together. Just unplug them and throw in a 20 or 25 amp fuse into both plugs by the clutch pedal. That will bypass the switch altogether then you don't have to worry about splicing the plug back on if you ever decided to fix the switch if it was bad.

Yeah, right up until you forget to push in the clutch or take it out of gear some day and jump it into another car or something.

I wouldn't do that, because the something may be a person or small child.

My car doesn't have neutral safety switch. I just push the clutch in anyways to be safe. It's habbit. Plus my escort is a 5 speed. So I don't forget cause I have to do it in there.
