Shifter

Looking to install a short throw shifter in my 92. I love the look of that white ball Hurst shifter but looks can be deceiving. I want looks and quality. Any one have experience with Hurst shifters?

Re: Shifter

Nope, I use the Pro 5.0. It's been in service for over 10 years and no problems whatsoever.

I have a hurst and Ahh I HATE it with a passion. Only reason it's still in my car is cause I don't have the extra $$$ to get another one ATM it's not much better than stock. If its free use it but IMO not worth it to buy. You can buy much better for same price.

I had a Hurst short throw and it felt cheap and rubbery, so I bought an MGW and I couldnt be happier. I would highly recommend MGW, for the same price as the Hurst, you can have one of the finest shifters on the market.

Re: Shifter

The only thing that would concern me about the MGW is where the threaded shaft screws into the orange aluminum offset piece. It looks like a few hard 1-2 shifts would snap it off.

Don't really care for mine, planning on getting a pro 5.0 or an MGW. It's better than stock but it seems like mine is wearing out and it's only been installed for 2yrs.

To show you how legit MGW is, I wanted to paste a link to their original website. They started off manufacturing gun parts, and also produce a shifter made to very high tolerances. As for the threaded shaft, it looks like it would be the weakest link in the shifter. But the shifter is so precise and smooth I truly have no concerns about breakage. I can literally shift with my finger tips(once the tremek 3650 warms up that is).

MGW
Under "normal usage" I would agree, but if you go to the strip you won't be using just your fingertips and if you are a "Power Shifter" then I see a good chance of snapping it off there.

No doubt it is a quality made shifter, but that just looks like an obvious weak spot to me.

Re: Shifter

MGW, Steeda TriAx or PRO 5.0 would be my choices.

the mgw makes less noise but in a fox body...whats a little more noise to drown out some other noise

the MGW might edge out the rest in terms of reach and comfort as reach sucks in pre 05 Mustangs~

What noise? I can't hear my shifter rattle over the exhaust.

I can definitely see where it has an advantage in the reach department.
I'm curing that issue on my Pro 5.0 by fabbing up my own custom bent shifter handle.
