Re: bad viberation

are the RPMs steady at idle or does it fluctuate a bit up and down?

Re: bad viberation

Pull the cap off the rotor and make sure all the contacts look fine, make sure the rotor looks good, pop the rotor out make sure the locating tab isn't snapped or cracked

check fuel pressure if you can, an injector could be bad... --

check around the balancer, make sure nothing is loose or cracked/hanging out, try taking the drive belt off (you can run it for a minute or two this way) see if it still vibrates badly..

Could also be a cracked or warped pressure plate/ flywheel

Re: bad vibration

My guess was also going to be a possible fuel flow problem similar to what Monte said above...I was thinking a fuel pump or injector issue....

Sounds to me like you could possibly be having a fuel problem causing the whole motor or just a cylinder to be running way lean and that's making the terrible vibrations...

mine had the same problem last year. It ended up being the harmonic balancer

Re: bad vibration

good point rocket 50!

a basic cyclinder balance test will tell you right away if its a mechanical problem, if everything checks there I would look at engine balance (clutch problem, balancer bad, flywheel out of spec.)

you can do this two ways, either from the computer via Koer and hit the throttle quickly OW, or the old fashioned and my favorite, a pair of insulated plyers and a tachometer record the drop in rpms as you disconnect each cylinder, the lowest drop is your strongest cylinder. a bad cylinder will have nearly no drop at all.

Re: bad vibration

alternatively you can just overpower the bad vibrations by listening to the beach boys good vibrations really loudly.
