Anyone out there with a 306 and love it? Hp numbers? I ask because my grey haired engine is begging for new life and i'm considering going 306 as opposed to a 331. My wanted result is a N/A daily driver that's got some punch for when it's needed. Nothing too crazy, just wanting some nice respectable power but also wondering if I'll kick myself later for not going 331.

You will gain nothing going 306 compaired to stock 302. If you want punch get some nice aluminum heads.

Yeah with the right combo you can get impressive numbers with a 306.. Mine is at 420rwhp and 483tq with just a couple good bolt ons. .

the main reason to go 306 is just for rebuild. there just isnt much more power over stock. if you are in need of a rebuild then certainly go 306. but of course a 331 would make more power.

mine is a 306 also.

If I'm ever able to build up my engine, it's 331 all the way. enough stroke for a worthwhile power boost and still be safe for forced induction later down the road.

Ok maybe a lil boost. Lol.. You will have yours in soon. But once my 408 is done I don't think anyone on the entire site will be quick enough to touch mine.

Well, I was going to cheat and just borrow my cousin's car. 1250 HP N/A with 700 HP nitrous set up.

Health sucks, seems to get a little worse as more time passes, but I have my nephews lined up to do the heavy lifting and wrench pulling.

I wish we were all closer together too. A meet up party would be !

No, his car is not even a Mustang.
I'm not real sure what class he runs it in, but it's fast. Low 4's & possible high 3's in the 1/8th mile.
Getting mobile is a huge part of the issue.
The nerve damage causes a boatload of pain and it's hard to motivate yourself to move much when it hurts like hell to do so. It takes me several hours to recover from just a 30 mile trip to the next town. The docs have already told me I won't ever be able to work again like I used to. Now we are concentrating on trying to get as much pain relief as I can get without the medications. Like I said before 1-800-crymeariver, I just have to deal with it and do the best I can.

P.S. I am currently in negotiations to get a 351W/427 myself.

Your gonna have severe pain some days but if you wanna go play in that pony again your gonna have to bite the bullet. Find a way to strengthen and stretch when possible.

A 427 would be nice! But my 408 on boost will get me near 700 one day .

That's the problem it's not just some days, it's every, 24 hours a day and only relieved with strong narcotic and nerve pain medications. That's what the docs are trying to help me overcome.

There is a calculation you can do in the Superchargers & Turbos thread that will give you an idea of Boosted HP gain if you know your N/A HP.
The first one in the line is theoretically what I can get with my 306 and just 8 lbs of boost.
With the 427 I'm looking at making 1000+ eventually so the build will take some time as I need to source and pay for components to withstand the power I want.

Yours might surprise you.

My biggest advantage over comparable cars is the weight loss or "Poor Man's Power Adder".
