If you find cheap they are worth it. I done the research. But if you wanna make a lot of power go with aftermarket. Trickflow etc... Porting and polish will help the flow of course. The best is to get heads, intake and change the cam and make some decent power.

+1

If you go with a manufacturer's package you will get performance matched pieces.
Trickflow as an example has a HCI or Top End Kit that will produce around 360 HP when bolted to a stock 5.0 engine.

trick flow heads are good but you have to buy push rods and people are over pricing used heads. if i can find a good deal on trick flows i would jump on them.

Pushrods are a minor expense and hassle.
To get the full benefits you would need to buy the complete kit, which is somewhat expensive.
Your first choice of the GT40X aluminum heads will be just fine.
Try to choose an intake (GT40, Cobra, Explorer) and cam to match and you should see around 300 + HP with those mods.

Once you have all of your top end components, go to CamQuest and let them help choose your cam.
You can match the specs they give you to any brand cam you desire.

Probably 300 FWHP (flywheel HP) , I doubt it will make 300 RWHP (rear wheel HP).

Then save your money and buy the Trickflow kit.
RWHP will be 15%-25% or more, less than your FWHP due to drivetrain losses.
