1989 5.0 lack of power

I just picked up a auto 5.0 and it seems like it's lacking in the power department. It seems to accelerate the same when I take off easy or when I slam it to the floor. The check engine light comes on and stays on for a few miles or comes on and goes right off. I tried to do a brake stand and it just just seemed to pre load the suspension. The car runs and drives very smooth I replaced the cap rotor plugs wires and fuel filter. Any ideas?

Re: 1989 5.0 lack of power

I know this is a pre OBDII car but I looked under the dash for a plug and didn't see anything. I'm more familiar with new Mustangs and much older ones. Foxes are kind of a gray area for me.

Should be by the driver side hood latch in the engine compartment.

there is also a way to pull codes without an obd1 reader. check the useful sticky thread or google for the procedure.

Re: 1989 5.0 lack of power

I had the engine light checked code 11,31,95 were the stored codes. I know the 31 code is a EGR code and the 95 is a fuel pump code but I don't know what 11 is. Would any of these codes hurt performance? As for the lack of power the timing was 14* off now that it's right it seems like a new car.
