Automatic overdrive

When running an 1/8 is it better to turn off the overdrive?

Sure. You shouldn't barely get in 3rd gear so it prob won't matter.. What are your mods?

It probably wouldn't matter, cause unless u have super steep gears u shouldn't get to OD.even then u probably still wouldn't

Ive got 3.73 gears, shorty bbk headers, offroad h-pipe, 2 chamber american thunder flowmasters, underdrive pulleys, svo upper and lower intake, crane rollers, cobra heads, msd ignition, aluminum fordracing driveshaft, bbk cai, bbk 65 mm throttlebody, hi-flow oil pan..
If running quater mile when its in 4th is it ok to hit the button and let it shift into overdrive?

Thats what i figured.. So if im at the stoplight and a 350z comes next to me.. Ill turn off the overdrive.. LOL

first thing about street racing is we dont talk about street racing.

anyways revvingout the gears you wouldnt need OD till a pretty high speed

Yeah. A lil 100 wet shot of nitrous and tune will take care of that easily.. And it won't hurt it...

Thats why i put LOL.. a total hypothesis... I would never street race... Btw... With the mods i listed, my car being a 95 convertible lowered 2 inches, and having 42,000 original miles... What r educated guesses of what my times would b on a 1/4 mile? Im running size 315's in the rear...

like i said though. that is at best. at least with those big tires you should hook. but you could gain quite a bit with some good aftermarket aluminum heads.

Yup, i agree.. Those convertibles are heavy... ive got a buddy who keeps wanting to go to the havana dragstrip and race me with his nissan 350z.. He thinks he can take me...

yeah. i have a 88 vert. there are some thing you can do to drop wieght though. check in the useful sticky thread for info about what certain parts weight. i think my diet is around 150-200 but not sure. i want to get it weighed

88 huh? Nice!! My last mustang was an 88 gt hatchback manual.. LOVED it!!! I sold ot to buy my wifes wedding ring.. That was 8 years ago.. Funny thing is my wife is the one who found my new mustang and told me to buy it!!! God i love her!!!

You never want to shift into OD while under full throttle.The OD gears/clutches are weak and it won't take but a few times doing that to damage them whether in a manual or auto trans car.
