Fox body quarter window

Took this picture of my car today and it really made me think, why the f--- are the quarter window trim/moldings so bulky? I've noticed it before but this picture really made it stand out to me. I mean I don't think it looks terrible, just pointless IMO. Anyone know if there was a reason why ford made the moldings 3 times bigger than the window itself?

Ha, I have no clue! But I believe I've seen smaller aftermarket or custom ones at car shows. But I'm not positive

Yea you're right, I've seen a few of them around. Sucks the only way to swap them out for the smaller ones involves having to repaint a large portion of the car.

Looking at that picture the quarter window moldings look small compared to the trim around the door. You could paint the quarter window moldings to make them blend in with the car better.

Not sure why they look small, their the moldings from the factory. I guess my question is, why is the quarter window glass so much bigger than the window itself.

I was just stating that looking at your picture and observing the size of the door window trim the quarter window moldings are actually smaller, therefore I didn't understand why you thought they were bulky?

The quarter window glass is taller and looks a bit odd compared to the door window, but that's just how they were designed from the factory. Why they did that is anybody's guess.

I agree its anyone's guess. But I think he was referring to the actual amount of area that you can see through compared to how big the outside glass is.

Ahh, ok.

I would guess the reason for that is because they didn't want to make any body changes as the earlier cars 86 - back, used a smaller glass with a louvered cover behind it.
I removed those from my car and installed the newer larger glass because I liked the look of the glass better. To me the glass presents a smoother more refined look.
