Running rich

My car is running extremely rich and dying at stops on idle. When I first crank it, it has a very erratic idle if it idles at all. It's timed at 12btdc, I've went through the steps for setting base idle, checked my MAF, etc. I'm sure running out of ideas...

Also, after I plug my spout connector in after setting timing, it advance a hell of a lot!

Sounds like a fuel problem, likely a bad fuel pressure regulator. 12* is your base timing and it should advance somewhere around 30* total with the spout connected so that's normal.

Ok. That's about what my timing advances to. Is there a way to test my regulator so see if it's bad?

Test fuel pressure before and after the reg. You should be around 38 with the vacuum removed at the rails. And I don't know the pressure before the reg but it should be slightly higher.

I am getting an adjustable fpr this week. (was already in the market for one and a gauge.) BBK and some others are just too flashy under the hood as I like the dulled down look. Is Holley a good brand to go with on this part?
