There's an edlebrock torker intake for 125 and a performer for 250 on craigs list right now here in indy. I was thinking about getting one so I won't have to replace the intake after I put the stock one back on. I no I've seen a sticky about choosing the right cam around here some where. I'm gonna look into that b4 I install the heads also.
Make sure those intakes fit the CJ heads if those are the heads you are buying. A standard intake will not match up properly and severely restrict the head's air flow.

Good point. I guess I just have to wait till my gf saves up $2000 an see what heads we get. I've never messed with valve train so for now id like to get the heads assembled. So I should wait till I choose the heads b4 I choose the cam?

You will still have to set rockers and pushrods. But that's easy.

Choose the cam after you have the heads, intake and exhaust mods you are going to do. You will want it to work in harmony with those parts.

In all seriousness your girlfriend may end up with one heck of a hot rod Merc, but the gas mileage is going to be pretty poor.

Are you sure she wouldn't be better off just replacing the stock 460 heads with some stock heads and get her into a 5.0 Mustang instead?

The 5.0 can be modded to produce some pretty good power and still retain decent mileage. Mine puts out around 405 HP and I can still manage 22-26 mpg on the highway if I drive sensibly.

I told her the mpg is going to suck. My guess was around 10 mpg. But she's a woman. Lol. It was her first car and its in amazing shape so she insists on fixing this car. She says she want a 5.0 someday but for now she wants her merc back

Oh and her DD is an 04 honda civic that gets 27 mpg in town so that's y she's not to concerned.

Oh ok, I wasn't aware that she had other transportation options.
In that case go for it.
She will also want to rebuild the auto trans with some performance parts and add a shift kit & cooler. then she will be leaving some rubber on the road when it shifts.

Yeah I'm in the processes of getting parts to build up an AOD for my 86. I'm thinkin of letting her drive it wen the engine is done and telling her if gets on it to much shell screw up the tranny so she won't kill her self. Lol. It will b a lil more power than her civic. Then after she's used to it well beef hers up.

Here is what I was talking about in reference to the big cube 351W engines. Check out the power that bad boy makes.

ok just a few things the stock 460 block can handle 1000hp easily and be bored and stroked to 557CI without any clearancing...
a 460 stroker with aluminum heads, intake, waterpump and such is only gonna weigh about 50-100 pounds more than a aftermarket 351w block stroker motor..
stock 302 blocks will split up the center after pushing 500-600hp for an extended period..
my buddy has a dart iron eagle 9.5 deck 434 stroked small block and it makes 750hp on pump gas.. Yes that is a stout small block... I have owned many mustangs and i could do the usual again stroked small block like 98% of the mustangs out there.. But I dare to be different.. My 79 notch will have a 460 stroker and have around 850hp and 750lb of torque on pump gas and still weigh less than a stock 5.0 mustang...
460's fit in foxbodys with ease...
build that merc up and find a 460 for your mustang

Lol, the merc is mine now. My gf an I broke up and she owed me some money so she gave it to me. I've been trying to decide what to do with it! I might have to get it fixed up soon.
