Fuel pressure problem?

Is 32 psi to low I been having issues lack of power misses terribly on start up idles fine after about 5 mins of runtime but no power. If it sits for maybe 2hrs or so when I start it back up it runs like crap again for about 5 mins. I have pretty much checked and tested every sensor that I am aware of other than the act sensor, i set timing ect only thing I can figure out is maybe fuel pressure??? Or blown head gasket between cylinders thought I had done a pretty thorough compression check but maybe not lol. O and it always seems to be running rich and about have throttle there is a dead spot in power

I'm pretty sure that's a little low. Its supposed to be closer to 40 psi.

What about a leaking injector..When the pressure comes up on the gauge during a key on engine off,,does it slowly drop off,,that could indicate a stuck open injector,,Also check the fuel filter,,if the pressures low

Yea im kinda thinking injector cuz it has always seemed to run really rich

Thats what i thought 38-40 with it unplugged I guess that would be the reason for it backfiring on startup as well.

Your fuel pressure should be 38-40 with the engine idling and the vacuum hose on the regulator removed and plugged off. When you reconnect the vacuum hose the fuel pressure will drop some.


You should also check your timing. Don't forget to remove the spout plug before checking/setting and to replace it afterwards.


If you do not have a Chiltons manual for your car, get one. They contain a lot of specs and procedures for testing and working on your car.

I prefer Chilton over Haynes. But with that said I only have a Haynes. If your gonna fork up money for another book I would recommend getting the ford service manual. It can be had for around 30$ and will blow both books put together out of the water.

the fuel pressure is supposed to rise as u rev the engine right? it just seems like it floods itself out at higher rpm especially if the throttle is wide open

I believe I may have a faulty fuel injector how long should the fuel system hold pressure I put a gauge on it had 32 when I left came back in 4hrs and it was 0 would this be normal or could I possibly have a leaking injector

That could indicate a leaky injector or regulator either one. Run some tech rpm through it and see if it helps. If it affects it at all it is the injectors. How hard to start is it?

Easy to start but it runs rough for like 2mins then clears but doesn't have power that it should and at wot its like it has a rev limiter

Tech rpm shoulda been techron. Frickin auto correct. Have u checked TFI module in distributor?

Yea checked and replaced those and tps and set at 1., iac, egr, set timing to 12btdc

Did you replace pick up coil also(hall effect switch) in distributor?

For the he'll of it, I would change the fuel filter. It's cheap enough and easy to do.

Yea im gonna do that today and take my plugs out and see if i can tell if one is burning to much fuel
