Re: Need help with a CAM

Generally, you can call the major camshaft designers and their tech staff can point you in the right dirrection. I found a place to do the installs and got pricing and then made sure with the CompCAMS that I was about to buy the right ones for me. I am actually in the process of getting camshafts put on my 05. It can get real pricey though if they have to change the springs and rocker arms, etc etc but those will also get you the most power and maintain stock-like ride quality

Re: Need help with a CAM

could try here Ford Racing Performance Parts [M-6250-E303] IMO it's kind of a waste doing a cam without the heads to support it. stay stock cam and save for heads and intake. you'll see some gain with the cam ( 10 RWHP) but you won't see the cam's potential until you upgrade or port your heads/intake .

Re: Need help with a CAM

The test of the cams I am getting show 20rwhp gains at 4000rpm up to 31rwhp gain at 6250rpm and they are not even the most agressive cams available. I am also having a before/after dyno done on my own car so I will have personnal data to throw your way if you wait a week. True though that ported heads will help a lot more in conjuction with cams but you can get cams for about $500-$1000 (with new springs) and a set of ported heads for the 3v engine is about $2600 so there is quite a price difference between just cams vs cams +heads +install = close to $4K

I should hope you'll see that gain.But you gotta remember your's is a 05 his is a 91 so your personal data won't mean a thing to him so far as heads go Patriot Performance heads are about 1,500.00 from american muscle who is a site sponsor and there's always ebay you could do it for under 1,200.00 or less

Re: Need help with a CAM

I found this one from Crane, it's in their energizer series. Here's the stats:
Specifications:
* Advertised duration: 278 intake/278 exhaust
* Duration at .050 in.: 222 intake/222 exhaust
* Gross valve lift: .498 in. intake/.498 in. exhaust
* Lobe separation: 110 degrees
* RPM range: 2,400 to 5,400
* Good to fair idle, daily usage, good mid-range torque and HP, mild bracket racing
* 2,700-3,200 cruise rpm
* 9.5:1 to 10.75:1 compression ratio recommended
Ford: 260-302, 278/278 advertised duration, hydraulic, cam and lifter kit
This Crane Energizer cam and lifter kit provides good mid-range torque and horsepower and better throttle response at a price anyone can afford. It's computer-developed for non-emissions controlled vehicles with tighter lobe separations and single patterns for a fair idle quality. It includes a camshaft, lifters, and assembly lube.

Best of all it was 99.95 from Summit

Here's some heads on Ebay eBay Store – J and C Cylinder Head Exchange: Search results for performance heads.

Re: Need help with a CAM

That is the advantage of earlier model cars, the parts are so much cheaper. I would love to wait and get prices like those but I want the power now.

Re: Need help with a CAM

I will gladly do that. They are strapping the car to the dyno before the work (Monday April 14 morning) and after the work but they are putting on more than just the cams. I can ask them to do a dyno with just the cams installed if you are that curious.

Re: Need help with a CAM

They called me with the numbers of before the install. With the way I sent the car out, '05 GT Manual with K&N CAI, Borla cat-back exhaust and SCT XCal tune = 284rwhp. They said that is really really good since most are about 258 rwhp stock.
New numbers coming tomorrow hopefully . . .

Re: Need help with a CAM

i dont know if 4.6 cars will ever be cheap to mod... no one makes mass production heads and technologly isnt 40 years old ... 5.0 is pretty much a 289 or 260... the biggest mustang change in 45 years was to go to the 4.6!!!
